The State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is likely to get six new coal blocks. On the sidelines of the 39th Meeting of the Standing Committee on Safety in Coal Mines held in New Delhi on Friday, Union Minister for Power and Coal Piyush Goyal spoke to SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar to learn about the company’s plans in view of the CIL grand plan of enhancing coal production from 500 MT to 1,000 MT by 2019-20.

Khammam: The State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is likely to get six new coal blocks. On the sidelines of the 39th Meeting of the Standing Committee on Safety in Coal Mines held in New Delhi on Friday, Union Minister for Power and Coal Piyush Goyal spoke to SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar to learn about the company’s plans in view of the CIL grand plan of enhancing coal production from 500 MT to 1,000 MT by 2019-20.

Sridhar informed the Union Minister that the SCCL has revised upward the projections to 75.6 MT by 2019-20 against the Ministry of Coal Working Group’s earlier projection of 60.60 MT. Explaining the limitations such as deep seated reserves, higher stripping ratio and poor quality, Sridhar urged the Minister for allocation of coal blocks.

It may be mentioned here that the SCCL had applied for six new coal blocks recently. They include Parsa East – Kanta Basan, Talaipalli, Parsa, Gare Palma Sector-II , Mahanadi – Machchhakata and Naini. According to SCCL sources, the Minister assured to extend necessary support in allocating coal blocks to SCCL for aiming towards 100 MT of production annually by 2019-20.
