Hyderabad: Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy on Friday informed the Council that the government purchased 1,448 four wheelers as part of modernisation of policing in the State.

Replying to a question by Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, M Ranga Reddy and M S Prabhakar Rao (all Congress)--- the Home Minister said as many as 278 Bolero, 476 Tata Sumo and 694 Innova vehicles were procured and provided to police stations and other wings of the police department. The Minister said Tata Sumos and Bolero vehicles had been provided to all police stations in 10 Telangana districts. Innova vehicles had been provided to all police stations in Hyderabad and Cyberabad Commissionerates. The vehicles were directly purchased from manufacturers or authorised dealers under DG & D rate contract and the vehicles which were not under DG & D rate contract were procured through open tender system on e-procurement platform, he said.

To another question put by Paturi Sudhakar Reddy, the Minister said various measures had been taken to curb obscene and violent websites which are encouraging cruelty against women. He also said some 1,400 obscene websites had been identified which were mostly viewed in the State and efforts were initiated to block these websites.

In an attempt to curb obscene websites, an awareness campaign was conducted in some 300 schools against women and child abuse cases under the jurisdiction of Cyberabad and Hyderabad Commissionerates. Similar campaign had been taken up across the State, Naini said, adding that an obscene website looking similar to TS police i.e. www.tspolice.com was identified which was hosted from Netherland in 2009 was successfully blocked with court directions.
