Karimnagar: The ‘Sukanya Samridhi Yojana’ scheme would ensure equitable share of resources to girl children and help them save for their golden future, said district collector Neethu Kumari Prasad while launching the scheme here in district head post office on Monday.

On the occasion she said, “The 'Sukanaya Samridhi Yojana’ (SSY) is a small deposit scheme for girl child under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign, introduced by the Central government for girl children below 10 years of age.” This scheme will enable parents to open accounts in the post office on the name of girl child who are under 10 years of age by depositing Rs 1,000 every month. From the day of opening the account, money can be deposited up to 14 years.

The total principle amount with benefits can be obtained after the girl attended 21 years of age. Neethu Kumari said, “To meet the requirement of higher education expenses, partial withdrawal of 50 per cent of the balance amount will be allowed after the girl child has attended 18 years of age.” The parents of the girl child are requested to go to nearest post office to get the details about the scheme and avail the benefits by opening account under SSY scheme.
