Hyderabad: The Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Bandaru Dattatreya, asked the officials to speed up the cleaning task of Musi River saying that it should be the top priority work. The second phase of Musi River cleaning proposals should be sent to the Centre to get the required budget, he said. The Minister also informed that the Union Environment Ministry would give the necessary clearances.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday after reviewing development works, Dattatreya said Hyderabad has lot of potential to be a universal city. However, proper planning was lacking in many areas of the city. For example, the State authorities planned to build a bridge with foreign collaboration between Jubilee Hills Road No 45 to In-orbit Mall with a huge cost of Rs 350 crore. The same project could be completed with mere Rs 63 crore with locally available technology in short time, he said.

Union Minister said a road between Borabanda Railway Station and an idle place in the nearby should be built to ease the traffic congestion. “I have asked GHMC Commissioner to build this and he responded positively,” said the Minister. As part of the Swachh Bharat campaign, the Centre was keen to provide toilets in every slum and school. For the benefit of women, these activities should be taken up and the concerned authorities should focus on this, he said.

He informed that the GHMC was on the task to provide nearly 18,000 houses for the poor. For the benefit of local construction workers, the Labour and Employment Ministry was planning to provide proper training, he said. GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, Hyderabad Collector Nirmala and Ranga Reddy Collector Raghunandan Rao were also present.
