Hyderabad: Officials of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) were in for huge shock when they raided the house of the Assistant Drug Controller (ADC), Mayuri Vijay Gopal, on Friday morning and unearthed disproportionate assets worth Rs 10 crore, including six shopping complexes and plots in the city.

Mayuri Vijay GopalACB sleuths, who raided his residences at Adilabad and Hyderabad simultaneously, revealed that the 51-year-old drug controller official owns a residential building at Chikkadpally, a commercial complex (12,000 sft) with pent house at Chaitanyapuri, a residential building (4,500 sft) at Old Malakpet, a shop at Dilsukhnagar (1,600 sft), a shop at Nallakunta, open plots at Medipally, Neredmet and Shadnagar, agricultural land of eight acres at Velijerla, 10 acres at Shadnagar, two houses at Nallakunta, Rs 1 lakh bank balance, household articles worth Rs 30,000 and a two-wheeler. They also seized documents pertaining to ‘benami’ properties.

According to an ACB press release, the document value of the above assets is approximately Rs 1.5 crore and the market value of the immovable properties is approximately Rs 10 crore, however, it could be more than Rs 100 crore. The raids were carried on under the supervision of ACB inspectors, Venu Gopal and Kashaya. They said they might need a week more to evaluate assets and reach accurate figures.

“We are shocked at the boldness of Vijay Gopal as he was caught in 2010 on corrupt charges while working as in-charge Drug inspector, Hayathnagar but still indulged in such shocking corruption,” the officials said, adding that at the last count, his total assets were estimated to be worth Rs 1.5 crore. Cases have been registered against him under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and subsequently sent to judicial remand.
