Home Minister directs officials to create a friendly atmosphere in prisons

Hyderabad: Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy underscored the need for bringing change among jail inmates. Participating in the concluding day ceremony of revision classes for jail officials at Cherlapally Jail here, the Home Minister assured to strengthen the jails with modern amenities.

He directed the officials concerned to provide a friendly and healthy atmosphere so that the prisoners realised their faults and came out as reformed persons on completion of their terms.Though the prisoners might have committed crimes in a fit of rage, emotion or revenge, they should realize their mistakes and come out clean, he opined.

The Home Minister said efforts would be made to grant special budget for jails for their upkeep and better maintenance. “The government is all set to provide adequate funds to the Jails department to ensure that the jail birds improve their professional skills,” he said and appealed to the officials to make jails in Telangana the bests across all southern States in terms of amenities and upkeep.

V K Singh, Director General, Jails Department, who participated in the programme said they had eradicated corruption in the jails in Telangana. Telangana had become an ideal State across the nation for curbing corrupt practices and reduction of deaths, he said. A plan is afoot to set up a welfare board for the jail employees, who served for a long term and retired persons on lines of Sainik Welfare Board.
