Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the BJP is in for a revamp soon. This hint was dropped to the State leaders at the State executive meeting of the party held in Bangalore recently. According to sources, the BJP national president Amit Shah wanted Telangana BJP leaders not to be overenthusiastic over the recent victory in the MLC elections. Shah is learnt to have told the State leaders not to forget what happened in the past.

He told them that Yannam Srinivas Reddy who had won the by-election to Mahabubnagar seat last year with great majority had lost during the general elections. Shah told them that the party leaders should focus on ensuring that they get at least 30 lakh membership as against the set target of 35 lakhs. In the last Assembly elections, the TRS won the majority by garnering 72 lakh votes.

“If the BJP membership reaches the target of 30 lakhs, it will mean a voter-support strength of 90 lakhs, if strength of a family is taken as three on an average,” the BJP president said. It may be recalled here that the BJP State president G Kishen Redddy’s term comes to an end soon. According to political circles, Kishen Reddy would be inducted into the national committee and the State would have a new president.
