New Delhi: Telangana TDP leaders on Tuesday were shocked when the Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh told a party delegation that the Centre was not aware that drought prevailed in Telangana state as the ministry has not received any report from the state government so far. The delegation, led by party Telangana unit president L Ramana called on the minister at his chamber here seeking the Centre’s assistance to provide relief to the farmers and people from drought that is causing severe water crisis in Telangana districts in summer.

Radha Mohan Singh told the leaders that the Centre would not extend any help to Telangana until the ministry received a detailed report from the state government. He also clarified that funds from NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) would be released based on the state government’s report only. However, he assured the delegation that the ministry would seek a mandal level report on drought from the state shortly.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, TTDP senior leader E Dayakar Rao alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was indifferent to the plight of drought-hit farmers. “Had the government submitted a report, the drought-hit districts would have received the required funds from the Centre. It was the stark example of the functioning of KCR’s government,” he said. Later, the delegation also met Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and requested his active intervention in providing relief to the affected districts instantly.
