Khammam: A hoax call received by the police from an unidentified person saying that he saw a man with gun at Rajeshwarapuram village in Nelakondapally mandal in Khammam district on Wednesday created panic among the people. Suspecting that a terrorist, involved in the Suryapet firing and Janakipuram encounter, who escaped might be hiding in the area, police rushed to the village and made enquiries.

The locals said that they saw two strangers alighting from a lorry at Kusumanchipuram village on Tuesday night. The police officials thought that the person mentioned by the unidentified caller might be the same one who alighted from the lorry on Tuesday night. However, after a thorough search of the area, the police did not find any trace of the ‘suspect’. Ultimately, they came to a conclusion that they received a hoax call.

District Superintendent of Police Dakshina Murthy said, “We received a call from an unidentified person that he saw a man with a gun at Rajeshwarapuram village in Nelakondapally mandal. In view of the present situation, we immediately sent a team, headed by a Circle Inspector. After a thorough search and enquiry, we came to know that the call we received was a fake one. We are also investigating into the origin of the fake call.”
