Veteran CPM leader passes away
Senior CPM leader and Nakrekal former MLA Narra Raghava Reddy passed away at 6.45 pm on Thursday. He was 92. Raghava Reddy was admitted to Kamineni Hospital at Narketpally a few days ago with diabetes related complications. He breathed his last at 6.45 while undergoing treatment.

He was born in 1924 to Narra Ram Reddy and Kanakamma in Vattimarthy village. He went to Mumbail and worked as a labourer at Gaikwad Jute Mill where he emerged as a labour leader with the support of trade unionist G M Khan. A soft-spoken communist, Raghava Reddy had an immense understanding and knowledge of rural life and worked in cultural unit of the Communist Party.
He joined the CPI in 1950 and was elected as sarpanch of Shivanenigudem in 1959. After the split in the CPI, he went with the CPM under the influence of Ravi Narayana Reddy and Dharma Bixam. Raghava Reddy was jailed was among the leaders jailed by then Congress government during the emergency. He was elected state committee member of CPM in 1971 at the party meeting held in Warangal. He was elected as MLA of Nakrekal for six terms since 1967 elections.
He won the elections as MLA from the constituency in 1978, 1984, 1989, 1994 and 1999. As the floor leader of the party in Assembly, Raghava Reddy raised a range of public issues and fought for the welfare of toddy tappers, gram sevaks and weavers. He withdrew from active politics after 1999 due to health problems. Raghava Reddy’s body was kept in CPM office Dhoddi Komuraiah Bhavan in Nalgonda town for public view.
Nalgonda MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy and several CPM leaders paid tributes to the late communist leader at Dhoddi Komuraiah Bhavan. Condoling the death of Raghava Reddy, Nakerkal MLA Vemula Veeresham said that the late leader had played a key role in Telangana agrarian armed struggle. Reminding that Raghava Reddy was elected as MLA from Nakrekal constituency for six terms, he was proud to represent the same constituency. “His life is worth to be emulated by every politician,” the MLA added.
