The last rites of veteran communist leader and former MLA Narra Raghava Reddy, who passed away on Thursday, were performed with state honours at his native place Vattimarthy in Chityal mandal in the district on Friday evening. A funeral procession was taken out in the village in which leaders of different political parties, Left activists and a large number of people participated.

Nalgonda: The last rites of veteran communist leader and former MLA Narra Raghava Reddy, who passed away on Thursday, were performed with state honours at his native place Vattimarthy in Chityal mandal in the district on Friday evening. A funeral procession was taken out in the village in which leaders of different political parties, Left activists and a large number of people participated.

As a token of respect, police fired three rounds into the air at the funeral as Telangana government had decided to conduct his last rites officially. Earlier, the mortal remains of Raghava Reddy were kept at the CPM office in Nalgonda town for public view where leaders of various political parties paid rich tributes to the late communist leader and recalled his services to the society as well as to the district.

Leader of Opposition in Assembly K Jana Reddy, Telangana PCC president Uttamkumar Reddy, CLP deputy leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, CPM politburo member B V Raghavulu, CPM Telangana State Secretary Thammineni Veerabadhram, CPI leader Palla Venkat Reddy, TDP leader Mothukupalli Narsimhulu, BJP leaders Chinta Samba Murthy and Goli Madhusudhan Reddy, TRS district convenor Banda Narender Reddy and Parliamentary Seretary Gadhari Kishore, journalist leader K Srinivas Reddy were among those who paid tributes to Raghava Reddy at Nalgonda district office.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, Jana Reddy said that as an elected representative and communist leader, Raghava Reddy had strived relentlessly for the development of Nalgonda district and remained a people’s leaders by fighting on the issues being faced by the people. His life was a model to be emulated by the present generation of politicians, he felt.

Uttamkumar Reddy said that Raghava Reddy had waged relentless fight for solution of people’s problems during his entire life. He urged the state government to set up a memorial for him in Nalgonda district headquarters.Stating that the CPM had lost a great leader with the demise of Raghava Reddy, B V Raghavulu said that they would tread the path shown by him in fighting for the cause of people.

Mothukupalli Narsimhulu felt that the services of the late communist leader to the dalits and weaker sections of the society were not forgettable. His life is a lesson to the politicians in serving the people, he said and reminded that Raghava Reddy had rejected the house site offered by the State government to the legislators, when he was MLA.
