Hyderabad: Medical Council of India (MCI) member Ramesh Reddy has lodged a complaint with Governor, Medical Council of India. Reddy in his complaint alleged that the vice-chancellor had refused to give him approval letter for attending the General Body meeting of MCI.

The General Body was held on March 26 and 27 in New Delhi but two of the members - Dr. Ramesh Reddy and Additional DME (Director of Medical Education) of Andhra Pradesh Dr K Venkatesh, Professor of General Surgery at Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad - could not take part in the meeting.Speaking to The Hans India, Dr Ramesh Reddy, Paediatric Surgeon at the city-based Niloufer Hospital, said that injustice was meted to him by the Vice-chancellor at the behest of a strong ‘Gujarati lobby’ in MCI.

According to Prof. Reddy, all members of the MCI should carry a letter of approval from their heads to attend the MCI General Body meeting. But Dr. Ravi Raju refused to issue the letters to him and to Dr. Venkatesh on the pretext that these two were members from the undivided Andhra Pradesh state and they cease to be members following the bifurcation of NTR Health University.

However, Dr Reddy claimed that the bifurcation of Health University has not taken place so far and gross injustice has been meted out to him and Dr Venkatesh purely on technical grounds. He said by not being able to attend the meeting he said he could not raise the issue of case of embezzlement against MCI president Ketan Desai and issues like number of medical seats of Telangana. Dr Venkatesh was not immediately available for comment.
