Hyderabad: To keep a check on private coaching centres in the State, the Telangana Education Department has made it mandatory for the centres to register with the department. Department of School Education is now implementing the GO No. 200 of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh which mandates coaching centres to register with the government.

The GO states that all the unrecognised centres or institutes which offers coaching to JEE, Eamcet, Groups, Civil Services and other competitive exams will have to follow government norms. Due to the staunch lobby from the coaching centres the GO was not implemented at that time. The GO also states that coaching centres shall conduct classes in the well maintained classrooms and in a clean environment.

As of now, the government does not possess any data regarding how many coaching centres are operating in the State. To ascertain the number of coaching centres, the Education Department conducted survey in eight districts. “It is yet to start in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy,” T Chiranjeevulu Commissioner and director of Department of School Education said. The Education Department has issued the notices to the coaching centres and urged them to register.

The process of registration will begin from April 16. The coaching centres should pay Rs 1,000 towards the application and Rs 10,000 as caution fee. “The centres should register at the Mee seva by paying the requisite fee,” said a senior official of Department of School Education. The School education department would inspect the institutes for facilities, faculty and infrastructure. The registration would be cancelled if they fail to meet the requirements.
