Hyderabad: After April 18, all the state universities in Telangana will be headless. The tenure of Telugu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. E Siva Reddy, Palamuru University VC Prof. G Bagyanarayana and VC of Satavahana Universities Prof. Veera Reddy is scheduled to end on April 18. Already Osmania University, Kakatiya University, Dr BR Ambedkar University, Open University, Mahatma Gandhi University, and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University are running without vice-chancellors for the past several months.

So far, vice-chancellor of Palamuru University Prof. G Bhagyanarayana and VC of Satavahana University Prof. Veera Reddy were holding additional charge as in-charge VCs of Mahatma Gandhi University and Kakatiya University. Currently, government secretaries are holding in-charge vice-chancellors position in some universities. “So far the in-charge vice-chancellor of the Osmania University did not make a visit to the university at least once since taking charge. All the files are being carried to the secretariat for approval.

This is hampering the administrative work,” said Battu Satyanarayana, Chairman, Telangana State Federation of Universities Teachers Association. A visit by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council is due for the Osmania University and Kakatiya Universities. If the universities fail to get NAAC grade, the funds will be stopped,” said an official of KU. According to the sources, the government is mulling to amend the Andhra Pradesh Universities Act before appointing the vice-chancellors.

Sources said that government has plans to dissociate Governor from the university system and appoint academia for the post of chancellors to universities. Higher education departments had already worked modalities to amending the Act and submitted a detailed report to the chief secretary. Sources said that ordinance would be brought in couple of weeks and Act would be amended in the next Assembly session.
