Khammam: Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageshwar Rao said a food park will be set up at Sathupalli in the district at a cost of Rs 220 crore. Addressing a meeting of officials at Sathupalli on Tuesday, the minister said the Centre is allocating Rs 100 crore and the State government is allocating Rs 41 crores for the park. “The park will provide direct employment to nearly 6,000 people, mainly farmers, labourers and youth, and indirect employment to another 18,000 people.

Besides, in view of abundance of oil palm plantations in Sathupalli and Ashwaraopet constituencies, another oil palm industry will be set up in addition to GR Industries in Dammapeta with advanced technology,” he said. Nageshwar Rao advised farmers to cultivate oil palm as they can withstand adverse environmental conditions and ensure study income with no problem of losses. “Conditions in the district are very favourable for the cultivation of palm trees. The government also will encourage the farmers of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes to cultivate palm plantations by giving subsidy and by establishing more factories,” he said.
