BJP confident of winning GHMC polls
BJP is gearing for a good show in the upcoming GHMC elections. Apparent from the fact that it has five MLAs, one MLC and one MP from the GHMC region, it wants to further strengthen the base here by identifying potential candidates for the ensuing civic body polls. Also, BJP is banking on TRS “lack” of organisational strength and the population profile of the twin cities to ensure that its candidates triumph.
Hyderabad: BJP is gearing for a good show in the upcoming GHMC elections. Apparent from the fact that it has five MLAs, one MLC and one MP from the GHMC region, it wants to further strengthen the base here by identifying potential candidates for the ensuing civic body polls. Also, BJP is banking on TRS “lack” of organisational strength and the population profile of the twin cities to ensure that its candidates triumph. State BJP leaders have already made it clear that the party’s target is to win the Mayoral post, and MIM is its main rival.
While it feels TRS is a non-entity for the GHMC elections, it is taking another Opposition party, the Telugu Desam under its wings, as a junior partner in planning its poll strategy for the elections. Confirming this, a senior BJP leader told The Hans India, “BJP, TDP and MIM have won one each of the three MP seats that more or less fall in Greater Hyderabad region. Then where is TRS?, he asked.,”
Further, he said that of the 40 Assembly seats it had contested in Telangana, all the five seats it won fall under GHMC . The recent morale boost for the party came when its candidate N. Ramachander Rao won the Graduates’ MLC seat of Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahabubnagar.
