Siddipet (Medak): Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has inspected damaged crops in Siddannapet and Baddipadaga villages, of Nangunur mandal, here on Thursday. Crops were destroyed due to unseasonal heavy rain and hailstorm on Wednesday night. The Minister consoled the affected farmers and assured that the government would help them.

Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao said that crops were destroyed in Warangal, Karimnagar and Medak districts because of unseasonal rains and hailstorms. He pointed out that the government would pay Rs 5,400 as compensation per acre for those farmers whose crops were damaged. Likewise, the government would pay compensation of Rs 6,800 per acre for mango growers, he added.

He assured the farmers not to get disheartened with the crop loss as the government would extend all possible help to them. Rao advised sunflower farmers to sell their produce only at the agricultural market yards as the government was providing support price of Rs 3,700 per quintal. He stated that previous governments in united state had paid compensation if farmers have suffered crop loss of 50 per cent.
