Hyderabad: Even as Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu is on a hectic mission to revive the sagging morale among the rank and file of the TDP, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi is busy executing “Operation Two-third” to further cripple the TDP. The TRS leadership is planning to induct one legislator every time Chandrababu Naidu tours Telangana districts. This is a calculated bid to disturb Chandrababu’s focus on his party activities during the visit.

The TRS has already attracted four legislators into the party latest among them is M Kishan Reddy who announced his intention to defect to TRS marking Chandrababu’s tour to Mahbubnagar district, which was once the citadel of TDP. “The party leadership is planning to attract at least six more TDP MLAs in next six months,” revealed a source. Thus the strength of the TDP defectors to TRS would increase to ten. This would mean that two-thirds of TDP legislators show loyalty to TRS.

The TRS feels that it would help them escape disqualification since such defections could be called a merger of TDP with TRS. The Section 4 of the Tenth Schedule to the Constitution of India, popularly known as the Anti-Defection Law, says that no disqualification would be incurred when a legislature party decides to merge with another party and such decision is supported by not less than two-thirds of its members.

Precisely, the TRS has adopted this strategy in the Legislative Council. The same is likely to be repeated in the Legislative Assembly if TRS gets its plan through. No decision on petitions to disqualify the already defected MLAs would come out until then, the source revealed.
