BJP flays move to reduce number of school teachers

Hyderabad: The Opposition BJP has on Thursday lambasted the Telangana Rashtra samithi (TRS) government over its move to carry out rationalisation of schools and school teachers in the State. Addressing a media conference, BJP floor leader in Telangana Assembly K Laxman faulted what he called the State government’s ‘suspicious’ move to remove as many as 15,000 teachers from service. He warned that BJP would launch large-scale protest even if one government school was closed in the name of rationalisation.

According to Laxman, the TRS government’s claim that the teachers who turned out to be extra after the process of rationalisation would be accommodated in KG to PG schools was simply laughable. He expressed concern that if the government and local body schools were closed, child labourers would increase enormously, which was against the cause of ‘Bangaru Telangana’ espoused by the K Chandrashekar Rao government.

The senior leader pointed out that the government had failed to bring out common service rules for teachers working in various types of schools. He demanded that the TRS government take up rationalisation, promotions and transfers at a time, in the interest of teachers.

Criticising the government for its failure to adopt the Central Act of Right to Education, the BJP leader further demanded that the government fill up vacant posts of Deputy DEO and Mandal Education Officers (MEOs). Of the 67 Deputy DEO posts, 58 were vacant and of 462 MEO posts, as many as 422 were vacant, he said.
