Private junior colleges off govt radar on results. Ever since the TRS party has taken over the reins of the administration, there has been a pompous talk of overhauling the education system in the State.

Hyderabad: Ever since the TRS party has taken over the reins of the administration, there has been a pompous talk of overhauling the education system in the State. However, the issue of disclosing the academic performance of private junior colleges remains a non-starter. Though several promises were made, the TRS government has refrained from divulging information relating to academic performance of private junior colleges like the previous regimes. With the strong lobby of private junior colleges, erstwhile AP governments succumbed to the pressure put up by the colleges.

  • Colleges lure parents by projecting creamy layer results
  • Performance audit of the colleges not done
  • Pass percentage of the private colleges is less than that of govt colleges alleged

And it seems, the Telangana government is following the suit. If pass percentage of the colleges are made known, the real face of academic standards of these colleges will come under the scanner, they fear. Consequently, it has been made, over the years, the government colleges are shown in the poor light as underperforming institutions. It may be noted that percentage of successful candidates has increased by one per cent-from 60 per cent to 61 per cent this year. It is a well established fact the colleges flaunt only the results of creamy layer in a bid to lure the parents to join their wards in their colleges.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of releasing of Intermediate Second Year results, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari said-“Everyone knows how the private education system works. They complete syllabus in three months and categorise students into three sections based on their performance. ‘C ‘grade categorised students are made to write exams in private.” The government junior college lectures say that pass percentage in the private colleges is less than that of the government colleges. However, government is keeping this fact under wraps.

“We asked the Commissioner of Intermediate Education to give college-wise results so everyone knows which college is doing better. It also gives scope of improving the standards,” said B Ramshetty, President, Telangana Government Junior Lecturers Association. According to senior official of Telangana Commissionerate of Intermediate Education, the Board would not analyse results of the private colleges. “Over the years, there are no records of academic performance in the private colleges. We will segregate the records in the next year,” official added.
