Gandhi scion’s tour will expose Centre, State govt failures: Ponguleti
Khammam: Deputy Leader of the Telangana Legislative Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy criticised the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao saying that he had failed to visit and console the farming community, which was in utter distress. Speaking to the media persons at Dubba Tanda under Karepalli mandal in Khammam district on Thursday, he regretted that KCR was neither taking steps to help the farming community, nor he had offered any words of solace to the farmers’ kin, who committed suicides due to crop failure.
“There is an imperative need to declare ‘Agricultural Emergency’ in the State,” Reddy said, demanding the State government to speed up assessment and release of compensation for crop loss and fresh loans. He accused KCR of not declaring the drought-affected mandals despite famine conditions prevailing in the State.
Referring to the Land Acquisition Bill, Reddy criticised the BJP-led NDA government for ignoring the plight of farmers. Terming the UPA government as pro-farmer, Reddy came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for towing the line of corporate houses.
The proposed ‘Rythu Atma Gourava Yatra’ of AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi in Telangana will expose the anti-farmer policies of Centre and State governments, the MLC said. Earlier, he consoled the family members of Bhukya Chandu, a farmer of Dubba Tanda, who committed suicide due to crop failure. He handed over Rs 1 lakh to the deceased’s family members as financial assistance besides other provisions.
City bureau adds: the TPCC is contemplating to extend financial help to the families of farmers who had committed suicide, during the Rythu Bharosa yatra being taken up by AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi in Adilabad district on May 11. In a media briefing at Gandhi Bhavan after holding TPCC’s extended party meeting on Thursday, its president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the issue was being discussed amongst party leaders.
He called upon the farmers of State to make Rahul Gandhi’s yatra a big success since its first time that scion of Gandhi family would be visiting the state for reassuring support to farmers. Leader of Opposition in Assembly and Congress Legislative Party leader K Jana Reddy held that Rahul Gandhi’s padayatra was for stirring up the government. He said that hundreds of party activists who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the national leader are all charged up for the D-Day.
The TPCC party meeting was also attended by TPCC working president, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former PCC presidents Ponnala Lakshmaiah, D Srinivas, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, former Ministers J Geeta Reddy, Danam Nagender and several others.
A decision was taken up during the meeting to arrange interaction of farmers in the towns of Tupran (Medak), Kamareddy, Balakonda and Armoor (Nizamabad) with Rahul Gandhi, enroute Nirmal (Adilabad).
