Telangana cabinet sub-committee meeting with RTC employeesHyderabad: Talks between the RTC employees and the Cabinet sub-committee of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana did not yield any result and the unions have decided to continue the strike. While the efforts by the AP government to resolve the issue failed to achieve any breakthrough, the talks between the newly-constituted Cabinet sub-committee of Telangana and employees were inconclusive.

According to Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy, who is heading the sub-committee, said the talks would resume on Monday. He said the sub-committee members would discuss the issues raised by the union leaders with the Chief Minister and try to find a solution.

“They are demanding 43 percent fitment and we are asking them to scale down. The reason for this is that if accepted similar demands would come from other corporations as well,” Nayani said, adding that the Road Transport Corporation was an autonomous body and the employees were not the government employees.

He also said they had directed the police to refrain from filing cases against those who damaged RTC buses. “Let us not damage the buses and incur losses to the corporation,” the Home Minister said. The AP Cabinet sub-committee, headed by Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu which held talks with the RTC Employees’ Union (EU) leaders, wanted three weeks to resolve the fitment issue.

EU leaders K Padmakar Rao, S Babu and P Damodar Rao submitted a memorandum to the Cabinet sub-committee, in which they made eight suggestions that would improve the profits of RTC. The sub-committee told the leaders they will invite the union leaders for talks again. Speaking to mediapersons after the talks, EU general secretary K Padmakar Rao said the strike would continue.

Rao said the union had received the interim order of the High Court. He, however, maintained that the strike would continue and they would file a counter-affidavit before the High Court. Rao expressed confidence that the High Court would be totally convinced about their cause once their argument was presented. Rao contested the management’s claim that 62 per cent of RTC services were operated on Sunday.

He said: “AP division of RTC gets Rs 14 crore per day of revenue on operations. If 62 per cent services are operated, it should have earned Rs 9 crore. But there is no record to show that it has obtained even Rs10 lakh, he said.

Rao further accused the RTC management of giving freehand to private bus operators to collect exorbitant amounts from passengers. This is leading to extra costs on passengers and severe loss to the RTC, he said.
