Clad in a white kurta-pyjama, the 44-year-old Amethi MP launched “Raithu Bharosa Yatra” from Koratikal village, on Friday. He was accompanied by party general secretary Digvijay Singh and top functionaries of the party’s Telangana unit. Gandhi first visited the house of Velama Rajeshwar, who committed suicide on May 2 following huge crop loss.

Although, Rahul had difficulty in communicating with families of farmers since they couldn’t speak Hindi but he was helped by TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy in comprehending the problems of the farmers. He also handed over a cheque of Rs 2 lakh to the family. Sitting on the floor with the family members of a farmer, Rajiv enquired about their problems.
Linganna's wife told the Congress leader that her husband committed suicide following huge crop loss and the resultant inability to repay Rs.5 lakh in loans he borrowed from private lenders. Rahul, who gave a cheque of Rs.2 lakh to the family, advised her to ensure proper education of all her three daughters.
Rahul Gandhi’s program was aimed at consoling the kin of deceased farmers as well as to rejuvenate the ‘ailing’ Congress party in Telangana State. Though cancellation of Hyderabad trip left the Congress leaders in a tizzy, but they could make up for it in Adilabad. AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh attended the meeting addressed by Rahul Gandhi.
The padyatra began one-and-half-hour behind schedule as the Congress leaders reached Nirmal in large number of vehicles, leading to a traffic jam. The AICC vice president made a brisk walk for about 15 km in Adilabad district.
TPCC chief Utham Kumar Reddy, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and former MP Vivek and others followed their leader. Former ministers K Jana Reddy, Damodar Raja Narasimha, D Sreedhar Babu, D Nagender, Dr J Geetha Reddy, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, MLA Vamshichand Reddy, former MP Ponnam Prabhakar and others were present.
