Nizamabad: The Telangana State Excise Commissioner RV Chandravadan, on Thursday, urged the Excise, Police and Revenue officials to jointly curb the sale and manufacture of spurious liquor, alcohol and toddy in Nizamabad district.

The Commissioner conducted a review meeting here with Excise, Police and Revenue officials along with District Collector D. Ronald Rose, SP Chandra Shekhar Reddy, Bodhan, Nizamabad and Kamareddy RDOs and Excise officials, at Zilla Parishad conference hall.

Excise Commissioner Chandravadan said that the government is earning about Rs 50 crore revenue from Excise department in Nizamabad district, but the rise in sale of spurious liquor, alcohol and toddy has dented its revenues badly. Even on health grounds, consumption of illicit liquor is harmful, he added.

He said that spurious liquor and alcohol were sold at Armoor, Bheemgal and Bodhan mandals and also at various thandas in the district. He also said that spurious liquor is also illegally transported from border states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. He urged enforcement teams of Excise, Revenue and Police department to intensify their operations to curb this illegal trade.

He ordered the officials to book those illegal traders under Section-110 of CRPC Act and also try to provide alternative employment for manufacturers and sellers of spurious liquor to wean them away from this illegal trade. Excise In-charge Deputy Commissioner Arun Rao, Bodhan, Kamareddy, Nizamabad RDOs Shyam Prasad Lal, Nagesh and Yadireddy, Excise Superintendent Gangaram and other officials attended the review meeting.
