Hyderabad: The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) is contemplating to introduce the grading system as part of the examination reforms. The new system would come into force from the next academic year, if the thinking of the higher-ups in the education department fructifies.

With introduction of Choice Based Credit System at degree and PG level from the next academic year, credit system would be followed at undergraduate and postgraduate level. And grading system is already in place in the SSC Public examinations. The Board officials were of the view that introduction of grading system would checkmate private colleges from projecting their ranks. The officials felt the grading system would reduce stress and tension for scoring better marks.

The idea was mooted by the then erstwhile government when the High Court directed the government to prevent the private college from claiming the ranks. The government even mulled a proposal of placing the grades of students online and send marks list to the residence of the students. However, due to intense lobbying by the private colleges the government failed to take a decision on the same, it said.

A senior official of Board of Intermediate Education said thorough discussions are underway regarding the implementation of the grading system. “It might be implemented from the next academic year onwards,” an official added. Government Junior Colleges Lecturers Association, President, P Madhusudhan Reddy said grading system in the intermediate education is a good sign.

“The grading system will decrease the pressure on the students for getting big scores and will also keep a check on rank-hungry corporate colleges. However, before implementation of the new system, the board should create awareness among the students and parents. Failing which it will also meet the same fate like SSC,”
