Hyderabad: Doctors of Gandhi Hospital who are unhappy over the failure of the TS government in fulfilling its assurances in regard to their grievances like non functioning of lifts and lack of security utilized the occasion of the visit of Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) Suresh Chanda to air their grievances.

The Principal Secretary visited the hospital to check the quality of CCTV cameras that will be provided by the service-provider. The hospital has 20 CCTV cameras currently and 180 more cameras will be installed. However, Gandhi hospital doctors confronted Suresh Chanda saying that their demand for implementing the UGC scale salaries has fallen on deaf ears.

According to Siddipet Ramesh, Secretary of Telangana Doctors Association (TGDA), Gandhi Hospital branch, doctors of teaching hospitals must get UGC scale salaries as per GO Ms no. 816 dated June 24, 2006. But doctors are not getting Career Advancement allowance, transport allowance (TA), private care allowance, risk allowance and Non-private Practicing Allowance (NPPA) as prescribed by the UGC, Dr. Ramesh said.

Personal care allowance and Risk allowance were to be given at the rate of one-third of basic. What is more, doctors in teaching hospitals were to be promoted from Assistant professors to Associate professors upon completion of 5 years of service. According to Dr Ramesh, this is not happening. State government is showing lack of vacancies as a reason, he said.
