TRS efforts to win 5 MLC seats

Hyderabad: The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is leaving no stone unturned to ensure all its five candidates emerge victorious in the upcoming MLC elections. Party chief K Chandrashekar Rao’s son and IT Minister K Tarakarama Rao spoke to YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy over phone, seeking latter’s support to TRS.

According to TRS party sources, Jagan is understood to have positively responded to KTR’s request. YSR Congress won three MLA seats in 2014 general elections, but two of its legislators, Madan Lal and T Venkateshwarlu crossed over to the ruling party in the recent months. But with each legislator vote proving crucial, TRS took the decision to seek YSRC’s support.

Also, Tarakarama Rao held phone consultations with AIMIM (having a representation of 7 MLAs) and Left parties-CPI and CPI (M) having a legislator each in Telangana Assembly. TRS has a strength of 65 MLAs. four MLAs each from Congress and TDP, two MLAs from YSRC joined the ruling party in the last few months increasing its overall tally to 75.

With this strength it could easily bag four seats in MLC elections. But it fielded a fifth candidate and hoping that it would win it with the support of other opposition parties besides cross voting from TDP and Congress.
