Shabbir AliHyderabad: While welcoming the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s threat to dissolve Assembly, the Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir challenged KCR to go in for fresh elections to end the ‘defection menace’ , for once and all.

Speaking to media persons, here on Saturday, the Congress leader dared KCR to honour his own words and seek fresh mandate at the earliest. He said that his statement reflects his lack of faith on his own MLAs within one year of his government in newly formed State of Telangana. Since the day, he became Chief Minister, he does not trust his own MLAs and fearing revolt, he lured MLAs from other parties.

KCR also fears cross-voting in the ensuing MLC elections. “It would be better that KCR goes for fresh elections, he said. Reacting to KCR’s claim that only TRS and MIM would survive in next polls, Shabbir Ali said people decide the fate of parties and not KCR.

With regard to MIM, he said that the party has gained notoriety for switching loyalties. It sailed with the Congress party for 10 years and it has now aligned with the TRS. "We will give an answer to MIM on the streets of Hyderabad during GHMC elections," he said.

While ridiculing the election of AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, as the National President of TDP, he held that the AP’s ruling party does not fit into the criteria of a national party. To get recognised as a national party, the party should have its presence in at least four states and should secure 6 per cent of the total votes polled in an election. The TDP is no way closer to the criterion defined by the Election Commission of India.
