All services in most of the temples in Telangana State managed by the Endowments department came to a halt as the priests and other employees went on indefinite strike on Thursday. According to Telangana Archaka Sangham, an organisation representing the temple employees, 6,000 employees of 2,500 temples in Hyderabad and nine other districts of Telangana are boycotting their duties.

Hyderabad: All services in most of the temples in Telangana State managed by the Endowments department came to a halt as the priests and other employees went on indefinite strike on Thursday. According to Telangana Archaka Sangham, an organisation representing the temple employees, 6,000 employees of 2,500 temples in Hyderabad and nine other districts of Telangana are boycotting their duties.


The priests performed 'abhishekham' in the temples early in the morning, and then stopped all other services. The temple doors have been locked at many places. The temple staff also stopped issuing tickets to devotees for various poojas. The striking priests and employees also staged protests in the temple premises. Telangana political JAC convener Kodandaram who participated in the protest at Venkates- wara Temple Chikkadpally expressed solidarity with the striking employees.
