Hyderabad: The Telangana State Public Service Commission is mulling over revolutionary changes in the recruitment process. The Commission wants to do away with decades old pen-and-paper mode of examination and introduce online system of examination.

The online mode would be introduced for technical posts on pilot basis and then extended to other service recruitments, too. In all probability, assistant executive engineer posts and assistant engineer posts in rural water supply and sanitation departments will be conducted in online mode. However, the Commission does not want to replicate the same system for holding Group I and Group II exams.

  • A committee has been formed to work out modalities and on a pilot basis Goup II exams would be conducted online
  • Even handkerchiefs will not be allowed into exam centres

It is contemplating to bring a new system for holding Group II. When asked about the new system, the officials refused to divulge the information. For fool-proof and error-free examination, the commission intends to use the latest technology to monitor exams from its office through video surveillance.

“With huge technological advancement, why should we now follow the old system where question paper needs to be printed and distributed to the centres amidst tight security,” a senior official of TSPSC said. To speed up the process, the commission had set up a committee to select the centres and zeroed in on few centres in Hyderabad and Karimnagar.

“Except Adilabad, every other district has engineering colleges which can accommodate more than 1000 candidates at a single go. We want to make sure that test centres should have at least half or one kilometre distance from the gate to the exam hall.” The online tests will be held on the lines of GATE, SAT and JEE. Candidates will be given test key, OMR sheet and score card on their email address and mobile number within three days from conclusion of exams.

Taking a cue from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad which did not allow wrist watches into the Eamcet examination centres, the commission wants to replicate the same. The officials said all the required stationery will be provided to the candidates at the test centre“Even handkerchiefs will not be allowed into the examination halls. We will provide tissues if required. The tests will be conducted in a fool-proof way,” an official informed.

Besides online tests, the commission is working to do away with hall tickets by introducing biometric and photographic system. “Thumb impression and photograph of a person will be taken. When a person comes to centre, just by thumb impression on the biometric system, candidate will be allowed. This will curtail impersonation,” a senior official said.
