Khammam: Both the Congress and Left parties have no ‘moral right’ to criticise the Land Ordinance as these parties have acquired several acres of land when the older version of the Act was in place, BJP district unit president K Sridhar Reddy stated. He addressed a press conference here on Saturday.
Referring to the Nandigram violence where the Communist Party of India (Marxist) forcefully tried to acquire land for SEZ, he questioned how the Left parties and the Congress, which have given acres of land to Raheja Group at a throw away price, would object the Land Acquisition Bill.
“The NDA government led by Narendra Modi has brought out some key changes in the Land Acquisition Bill, keeping in mind the benefit of farmers and farm labourers,” he asserted, calling them as fundamental to the overall growth and development of the country.
He pointed out that the Congress, during its regime, had acquired lakhs of acres for SEZs and commercial purposes without giving proper compensation. It’s unfortunate that the same Congress is now criticising the NDA’s legislation, which provides four-time higher compensation to the displaced, he added.
To sensitise the people about the Land Bill and its benefits, the BJP district unit is going to conduct an awareness programme at the IMA Hall here at 11 am on June 8, Sridhar Reddy said. BJP Kisan Morcha national general secretary Polasani Sugunakar Rao, state general secretary Papaiah Goud and party state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy will take part in the awareness programme, he said.
BJP state executive member Gentela Vidyasagar, Kisan Morcha state vice-presidet Dongala Satyanarayana, senior leaders K Govardhan, K Kotaiah, N Srinivasa Rao, Mysa Papa Rao and Kondi Prabhakar Rao were present at the meeting.
