Hyderabad: The Union Government is unlikely to heed to the demand of the Andhra Pradesh government seeking implementation of Section 8 in Hyderabad and replace Governor E S L Narasimhan following the developments that had taken place after the note-for-vote scam surfaced.

It is being said that the Centre may suggest a solution if KCR seeks its intervention as Naidu had done. The Centre has taken stock of the situation before Naidu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital a few days ago. As the slugfest continued between the two States on the issue of phone-tapping, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao called on Governor ESL Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan on Monday and is understood to have strongly opposed Andhra Pradesh government’s demand for implementation of Section 8 of AP Reorganisation Act in Hyderabad.

He felt that neighboring State’s contentions were unwarranted because not a single incident of law and order breakdown was reported in last one year. KCR was closeted with the Governor for well over one-and-a- half hour. He discussed a host of issues with Narasimhan.

Opposing the AP’s argument to hand over law and order in the joint capital to Governor, KCR is said to have pointed out that during last one year there has not been any situation where there was any law and order problem or attack on any non-Telangana people. He is also learnt to have told the Governor that ACB does not come under the purview of Section 8.

Giving his views on allegations of phone-tapping,, KCR reportedly told the Governor that prior permission of Union Home Ministry was mandatory for any State to carry such an exercise. Telangana government knows the rules very well. There was no phone tapping at all. Calls made to Anglo-Indian phones were under scanner and that’s how role of other key persons had come to light.

Telangana Chief Minister also brought to the notice of Narasimhan the progress made by investigating agencies in the cash-for-vote scam. As KCR stuck to his guns of implicating Naidu, the latter was reportedly losing his cool and getting into action to retaliate. According to information, the Centre is unmindful of Naidu’s insistence on Section 8 and replacing the Governor as of now.

It is learnt that KCR also explained to the Governor about Palamuru and Dindi irrigation projects, which have now turned into a bone of contention between the two States. He is said to have told the Governor that Telangana government was only implementing decisions that were taken in the undivided Andhra Pradesh but were not implemented.

Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) were prepared and put in cold storage then, he is said to have informed the Governor. The BJP national leadership as well as the Centre are on the same page so far in treating the whole the note-for-vote scam as a corruption case.
