Khammam: A clash broke out between the forest officials and the Tribals at Bandarugumpu village, 30 km from mandal headquarters, Aswaraopet, in the district, on Tuesday. According to sources, the forest officials led by Section Officer Srinivasa Rao faced a stiff resistance from the tribals when they tried to obstruct the Podu cultivation claiming that the land belonged to the forest department.

Both the groups reportedly exchanged blows. Later, the forest officials lodged a complaint with the Aswaropet police against the villagers. Meanwhile, the CPI-ML New Democracy District Secretary Potu Ranga Rao in a statement, alleged that it was the forest officials who misbehaved with the villagers before the clash broke out.

“The forest officials attacked Madivi Adilakshmi besides thrashing K Suresh, Ramesh, Kondru Nagesh and Madivi Pothaiah,” he said, demanding the government to grant rights over Podu lands to Adivasis, which they were tilling for decades.
