Justice Dr B Siva Shankar Rao of the High Court at Hyderabad on Thursday stayed the arrest of Jerusalem Mathiah, fourth accused in the vote-for- note scam case till June 24. The judge made the interim order after hearing the Advocate General who came in place of the Public Prosecutor. The judge is dealing with a criminal petition to quash the case registered against him and arraying him in the cash-for-vote scandal.

Senior advocate Luthra appearing for the petitioner alleged that the investigation was done without registering First Information Report (FIR) contrary to the code of criminal procedure. He further contended that the provisions of the Prevention of Corrupt Act cannot be applied in this case as he was not a public servant.


K Ramakrishna Reddy, Advocate-General for Telangana state appearing for the ACB said that time is needed to respond to various contentions raised by the petitioner. The judge granted time to the government to respond till June 24 till then the arrest be stayed.
