TPCC to use Ramzan to press for 12 % reservation

Hyderabad: The TPCC is finding this Ramzan to be an opportunity, to pressure the government on its promise of 12 per cent reservation to Muslims. The party is gearing up to target the Government’s sumptuous Iftar party by appealing the community to boycott it.

According to party sources, the government is trying to hoodwink the issue even though it has been more than a year, since the TRS took to power. While the government is giving an impression that the community would be pleased by speaking about the Ramzan and at throwing a sumptuous Iftar party.

The Congress party would organise awareness programmes during the holy month to encourage the people to demand the government first fulfil its promise of 12 per cent reservation. It will be organising awareness programmes in all the districts of Telangana.

“We shall be targeting the much-publicised government’s Iftar party, which will be held at the month end. This time government will have a unique experience on its Iftar party. Our slogan will for this Ramzan is ‘pehle reservation, phir iftar’,” said a senior Muslim leader.

During the recently held TPCC’s extended party meeting in June 14, the issue of 12 per cent reservation topped the agenda. With an eye to improve its position in the State, particularly in the Municipal elections the party has taken up the issue, apart from Alair encounter case.

The party strongly feels that the Muslims, alienated during the general elections expect more from Congress. “We shall be demanding the government to fulfil its promise of 12 per cent reservation Muslims and to order a neutral investigation into Alair encounter,” said TPCC president, N Uttam Kumar Reddy to media.
