Hyderabad: The Congress leaders of Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC) led by former Minister Danam Nagender submitted a memorandum to Governor ESL Narasimhan seeking his intervention in ‘unscientific’ process of delimitation being undertaken by GHMC.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, GHCC president Nagender said that the current delimitation process, where 150 wards would be made into 200 wards, the GHMC was ignoring the basic principles and guidelines issued by the Election Commission.

He said that the Commissioner of GHMC , Somesh Kumar was going ahead with the process without consulting various political parties. Congress party feels that if the delimitation continues with current mechanism, there would be huge variation between wards as some of them will have only 25,000 population, while others would end up with 65,000 of population.

“This process is being taken forward with the sole intention of favouring a single political party, which is currently ruling the state,” said the leader. He demanded the Governor to take stock of the situation and order the review of the process or transfer the GHMC Commissioner. “The Congress will take up the issue with the Election Commission and later move the High Court if necessary,” he said.
