Hyderabad: The Telangana government is going to release second installment of farm loan waiver, amounting to Rs 4,250 crore, at the earliest, according to Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma. With this, 50 percent of loan of up to Rs 1 lakh each taken by 36 lakh farmers will be cleared.

Rajiv Sharma held a video conference with collectors of ten districts on Thursday. He directed them to undertake random survey with special audit teams to detect irregularities, if any. With regards to the arrangements for Kharif season, the Chief Secretary instructed collectors to crack a whip against agencies selling spurious seeds and those selling fertilizers and seeds at higher prices. Special teams should be constituted for conducting these raids, he insisted.

Sharma asked them to keenly monitor the distribution process as adequate stocks were already positioned in all districts. The officials should ensure that the farmers were not put to any hardships in getting seeds and fertilizers, Sharma said. Further, he emphasised on the need to encourage farmers to utilise green manure in their fields.

Collectors should play a proactive role in this issue. They should also educate them on the advantages and cost effectiveness of using green manure as against pesticides, he felt. The Chief Secretary also instructed district collectors to complete the task of constructing toilets in all government schools in the State by June 30.

Both the State and the Central governments had accorded top priority for equipping all government schools with basic facilities like toilets, he stated. Senior IAS officers RR Acharya, Rama Krishna Rao, C Parthasarathy, GD Priyadarshini and officials from various departments took part.
