MUSLIM ISSUES

Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir demanded Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to convene a high-level review meeting on Muslim issues on immediate basis. In his letter to the Chief Minister, Shabbir Ali condemned KCR for breaking the tradition of Chief Minister holding a review meeting on Ramzan arrangements.

"It has been a tradition for the Chief Ministers for the past few decades to conduct a review meeting on the Ramzan arrangements with the public representatives. However, by not doing so, you not only broke a tradition, but gave a wrong message among the people that Ramzan arrangements were not of serious concern," he said.

"The State government is yet to release the salaries of Mecca Masjid staff. Following my representation to you in the month of February this year, wherein I offered to pay the salary dues to employees, if the government is not in a position to pay salaries of Mecca Masjid staff, the State Government took some initiatives. However, this situation has remained the same.

Despite beginning of Ramzan month, the Mecca Masjid staff is yet to get their salary dues," Shabbir Ali said. The Congress leader said that the State government has failed to make proper arrangements for supply of power, drinking water and sanitation at Mecca Masjid and other mosques.

"The officials have compromised on security issues and almost all the CC cameras were not in working condition. The power cuts have become a regular affair and no emergency teams have been deployed in the city," he said in his letter. Shabbir Ali pointed out that for last year's Ramzan, despite sanction, the Rs 5 crore amount was released only after about five to six months.

"Similar is the situation this year. If funds, which are meant for repairs and maintenance of mosques are not cleared on time, then they are of no use," he said.
