Hyderabad: With the objective of gaining an upper hand in the forthcoming GHMC elections, all the top leaders of TPCC have started organising ward-level meetings in the City. They have expressed confidence of gaining majority in the council.

The TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy attended the meeting of Khairtabad constituency at Nandinagar on Sunday. Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender and GHCC in-charge Mohammed Ali Shabbir also took part.

Former TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and working president, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy spoke at the meetings of Uppal, Qutbullapur and Sanathnagar constituencies respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the party would campaign on the plank of the previous Congress government’s contribution to the development of the city during the period between 2004 and 2014.

He said the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had launched Swacch Hyderabad only with an eye on forthcoming GHMC elections. He felt that the people in Hyderabad would not trust him as he had failed to keep his promise.

He also released a brochure, called “The Golden Decade of Hyderabad 2004-2014” prepared by Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council and Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC), in-charge, Mohammed Ali Shabbir.

Former Minister Danam Nagender said the government was misusing power. The Chief Minister was reversing the development made during the Congress government. He said that the party adopted restraint for one year to give the government time to deliver on its promise.

Shabbir Ali said it was the Congress party which upgraded the Municipal Corporation into Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and it gave a major boost for growth of the city. While the MCH budget in 2004-05 was Rs. 680.69 crore, the GHMC's budget in 2014-15 crossed Rs. 4,599 crore.

Similarly, the IT export from Hyderabad grew from Rs. 5,025 Crore in 2003-04 to Rs. 57,000 crore by 2013-14. He said the Congress party had ensured overall development of Hyderabad.

The Congress leader ridiculed the claims by the Chief Minister on developing Hyderabad. He said the Chief Minister had been proposing works worth over Rs. 42,000 crore for Hyderabad while the fund allocated was mere Rs 526 crore in budget 2015-16.
