Gushing floodwaters from Nemali vagu and overflowing Wyra river surrounded the make-do sheds in which a site engineer and two work inspectors engaged in Jalimudi project works took shelter.

The employees were identified as Somi Reddy, Praveen and Kiran. Wyra DSP B Ram Reddy supervised the rescue operation. With incessant rains lashing Khammam district for the last few days Cherla mandal, Taliperu medium irrigation project continued to receive inflows from the catchment areas in Chhattisgarh.

Officials have opened all the 22 gates to release the floodwaters. Munneru and Akeru rivers witnessed an increase in water levels. Floodwaters in Munneru river reached the steps of Tirthala Sangameswara Swamy temple. Wajedu mandal recorded highest rainfall during the last 24 hours in the district with 23 cm.

Gundala (16.6), Venkatapuram (16.2), Yellandu (14.5), Cherla (14.2), Karepally (13.4), Pinapaka (13), Mauguru (12.2), Bhadrachalam (11) and Dammapet (10). The vehicular traffic between AP and Chhattisgarh on NH-30 came to a grinding halt at Chatti in Chintoor mandal. Sabari River is in spate as the floodwaters reached to 36 feet near Chintoor.

The irrigation officials opened four gates of the Lower Sileru project as the dam continued to receive inflows from upper reaches. Meanwhile, the water level in Godavari at Bhadrachalam is stable at 30 feet.

According to official sources, the water level in Godavari is expected to recede. The overflowing water at lowlevel causeway at Cheekupalli in Wajedu mandal disrupted road connectivity to as many 25 villages. A swollen stream in Ramaraopet village under Dummugudem mandal inundated several houses.
