LICENCE TO MAKE A KILLING

Hyderabad: Congress Legislature Party Whip A Sampath Kumar on Monday accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of giving license to private medical colleges to extort money from parents and students in the guise of admissions. Speaking to media persons on Assembly premises here, Sampath Kumar said the Telangana government had clubbed all management quota seats to form a 35 per cent pool which was being filled by the private medical colleges through their own entrance test.

Further, the fee in management quota seats had been increased to Rs 9 lakh from Rs 2.5 lakh per annum. The 10 per cent B category seats were earlier merit-based management quota seats filled through Eamcet. Another 25 per cent of the management quota seats were filled directly by medical colleges.

By making several changes in the system, Chandrashekar Rao had literally launched the sale of medical seats in the State. Sampath Kumar said due to the new system, the meritorious students belonging to SC, ST, BC and minority communities would never be able get admission in medical colleges. He said that the Congress would support the agitation being planned by the students' organisations in this regard.
