Hyderabad: With the arrangements including supply of fertilizers and seeds are in full swing in the ensuing Kharif season, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday instructed the Energy department to take all steps to ensure nine-hour power supply to the agriculture sector.

Reviewing power supply situation in the monsoon and agricultural season, he asked the officials to calculate the quantum of power required to supply all agricultural pump sets in the districts. He suggested observing one-day power holiday to industrial sector in view of high power demand in August for the farming sector.

The Chief Minister wanted to adopt a scientific method to ascertain the power supply during the Kharif. As part of measures to supply nine-hour power, the officials informed Chandrashekar Rao that agricultural feeders would be divided into two segments.

In the first segment, power would be supplied from 6 am to 3 pm and in second phase the pump sets would get power supply from 9 am to 6 pm. The officials also put the proposal before the Chief Minister for strengthening of transmission network at the cost of Rs 7,500 crore to supply 5,200 MW of power in the State regularly. The distribution network would also be upgraded at the cost of Rs 1,100 crore.
