Glitches make NTPC shut 2 units

Karimnagar: National Thermal Power Corporation authorities have stopped power generation in fourth and fifth units at its Ramagundam plant due to a technical snag. A total of 1,000 MW power was affected as generation in two units, each of 500 MW capacity, was suspended. However, this would not cause any power shortage or supply problem in Telangana State as it would get its share of 300 MW from the other power generating units in the plant which has an installed capacity of 2,600 MW.

While the current generation in fourth unit was suspended on Thursday, NTPC authorities shut down fifth unit on Wednesday due to leakage in a boiler tube. Usage of wet coal was the main reason for technical issues, NTPC source said. It will take another two days to resume power production in the two units. NTPC authorities have also suspended the production of another 350 mw to avoid burden on remaining units. Out of 2,600 mw capacity, at present only 1,250 mw is being generated.
