Hyderabad: Telangana aspirants of JEE Main, who were in for a rude shock following a goof up by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (BIE), can heave a sigh of relief as their ranks will be declared on July 4. Now, they can exercise their choices in the first round counselling on July 4 and 5.

The BIE failed to send to the marks of 1,188 students to the Central Board of Intermediate Education (CBSE) to arrive at JEE Main ranks. Speaking to newspersons at Telangana State Secretariat here on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari admitted to the fault of the BIE in not sending scores to the CBSE.

Following this fiasco, the Telangana government swung into action on Thursday and air-dashed its Principal Secretary for Education Rajeev R Acharya and BIE Secretary A Ashok to New Delhi to rectify the mistake. The officials, who ran from the pillar to post had a tough time to resolve the issue.

Initially, the CBSE refused to consider the Telangana team’s request. However, it had to budge following intervention of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), School Education, Secretary, Subhash Chandra Kuntiya. “Our officials met MHRD, CBSE and Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). They all agreed in principle to give ranks.

The data pertaining to 1,188 students has been provided to the CBSE. Clear instructions have been given by the CSAB to CBSE on how to arrive at the ranks. The CBSE is on the process of generating ranks. If already declared ranks match with these new ranks, the latter rank will be given in fraction i.e. 100.1. Ranks will be placed on the website,” Kadiyam informed.

The CSAB had said students can participate in the first round of counselling on July 4 and 5 and their seat allocation will be done in the first round on July 7, the Deputy Chief Minister informed. As the choice filling has already begun, Kadiyam appealed students to exercise the options on July 4 and 5.

According to sources, 130 students from Telangana were expected to get top ranks with an addition of BIE scores. Kadiyam said that Telangana students’ career was high on their priority and in the process directed officials of BIE to be in the national capital till the ranks were sent to the CSAB.

“This is a grave mistake and I am not going to spare anybody. Very soon action will be initiated on officials who are responsible for the mistake. Enquiry will be initiated on the frequent mistakes in the BIE,” Kadiyam stated. Kadiyam said with efforts of TS BIE, other boards across the country would also get benefited as they too made similar mistakes. “The CSAB has agreed to resolve issues of all the boards across the country,” he added.
