V Hanumantha RaoHyderabad: Senior Telangana Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumanth Rao, on Friday called on AICC president Sonia Gandhi and apprised her of the developments in the party following senior party leader D Srinivas defecting to the TRS.

During one-to-one discussions with Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi, Hanumanth Rao is understood to have assured the Congress president that the resignation of Srinivas would not have any impact on the party in the State. “The departure of Srinivas from the party is in fact a good riddance,” he reportedly told Sonia Gandhi.

Speaking to the media later, Hanumanth Rao lambasted Srinivas for deserting the Congress which had given him a political recognition and also bestowed upon him high positions and power. As a matter of fact, his joining the TRS would only create problems for senior leaders of the pink party, he felt.

Referring to Telangana State Chief Minister acquiring a Rs 5-crore hi-tech vehicle for his tours in the districts, the Congress leader wondered where was the need for spending such a huge amount, which could have been utilised for welfare schemes for the poor.

As regards the present controversies haunting the ministers in the Modi Cabinet, he demanded that the Prime Minister dismiss those “tainted Ministers.” He also wondered why the Prime Minsiter was maintaining a stoic silence regarding the Lalit Modi affair.
