Hyderabad: Seeking support of Dalits and backward classes, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said his party would go it alone in the forthcoming GHMC elections. Owaisi, who is also Hyderabad MP, ruled out any alliance with any party. He said this while addressing a meeting of party primary committee presidents and workers at the headquarters of All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) here on Sunday.

“Those who believe in Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's ideology will support MIM as the so-called secular parties are antagonists of Dalits, Muslims and backward classes (BCs), he alleged. "It should be ensured that most number of Dalits and BC candidates are elected on MIM ticket," he said.

The GHMC elections are scheduled to take place in December this year. On the ongoing strike by the municipal sanitary workers in Hyderabad, the MIM chief said the civic body is responsible for sanitation and employees have resorted to strike as it failed to keep its promises.

"People are facing inconvenience and unbearable stench is coming from garbage scattered on roads across the twin cities during the holy month of Ramzan," he said, and called upon the government to find a way to end the strike. He also urged the municipal unions to call off the strike in the interest of people.
