PALAMURU-RANGA REDDY LIFT IRRIGATION PROJECT
A delegation comprising all party leaders except TDP submits a memorandum to the Governor
Hyderabad: In a rare display of solidarity, leaders cutting across political parties came together to voice their concern over the ground realities of Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project.
Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Dr C Laxma Reddy, M P Jitender Reddy, MLAs and Mahabubnagar district leaders of all political parties, barring the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), on Monday requested Governor ESL Narasimhan to protect the rights of the people of Mahabubagar district, by appraising him of the facts about the project.
They asked the Governor to elaborate the details to the Centre and other related bodies such as CWC, Water Resources Management Ministry and also what they termed as ‘the blatant lies of the Andhra Pradesh government’. District leaders of the TRS, Congress, BJP, MIM, CPM, CPI, YSRCP and Lok Satta called on the Governor and presented him a memorandum on the issue.
The representation said the Andhra Pradesh government had stated that the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy LIS and Dindi LIS projects had pending adjudication of the references by KWDT-II, without approval of KRMB and the Apex Council tantamount to violation of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
At the outset, it was clarified that the two projects were not new as administrative approval for Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project for detailed survey and preparation of DPR by allocating 70 TMC ft quantity of water was accorded in 2013 by the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government. Similarly, administrative approval for Dindi Lift Irrigation was accorded by the government in the year 2007.
It was somewhat ironical that the necessary follow-up action was not taken earlier on these two important projects contemplated for meeting the requirements of the people of Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy districts falling in Krishna basin, as they were Telangana Projects. On the other hand, the Polavaram was taken up by the erstwhile government, said the representation.
The Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme envisages to provide drinking water to fluoride- affected areas and Irrigation facilities to drought prone areas of Deverakonda and Munugodu constituencies of Nalgonda district and some parts of Achampet and Kalwarkurthy constituencies of Mahabubnagar district by lifting floodwater from the foreshore of Srisailam Reservoir to Dindi Reservoir at 0.5 TMC ft per day for 60 days to a quantum of 30 TMC ft, the memorandum explained.
Both the projects are within the Krishna Basin and the Telangana government is at full liberty to take up these projects as contemplated by the erstwhile AP government and as per the allocations made by Bachawat Tribunal in respect of dependable waters. As these projects are not new, administrative approval should be carried forward to take to their logical conclusions, according to the memorandum.
