Following the threats from the GHMC, only five percent municipal workers called off the strike although the corporation authorities claimed that 95 percent workers had resumed work on Tuesday. So far, over 3,000 metric tons of garbage has been removed but with the sudden downpour of rains, the corporation is worried over the situation turning worse.

GHMC had to arrange for additional emergency teams following the rain on Tuesday. A member of the Greater Hyderabad Bhagyanagar Municipal Union, Mr A Shankar said that an indefinite hunger strike is set to begin on Wednesday with the joint action committee and Left parties extending support at Indira Park.

GHMC commissioner and special officer Somesh Kumar informed that the government will address the workers’ problems but the sanitation workers are continuing the protest due to pressure from contractors and the opposition.

The GHMC Commissioner said that 14,270 workers attended duty on Tuesday following a call from the Chief Minister to resume work and added that in case the protesting unions interrupt the sanitation works, the Corporation is seeking the Law and Order department’s help.
