Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner (GHMC) Somesh Kumar on Wednesday said that the government would meet the demands of the workers before Ramadan if they call off strike. Speaking to The Hans India, the GHMC commissioner said he was in regular touch with the government and an order would be issued before Ramadan.


Nearly 98 per cent of striking workers called off strike and started attending to their duties from Tuesday. Somesh Kumar claimed that nearly 98 per cent of the workers had reported for their duties on Wednesday and as much as 3,036 metric tonnes of garbage had been cleared till 4 pm, he said.


When pointed out that still thousands of striking workers were participating in the rally held at Indira Park, he said barring Uppal and Patancheru circles workers, sanitary staff from other circles reported for duty. Out of 18,382 outsourcing workers, as many as 17,058 workers had attended to their duties on Wednesday.

The Commissioner further said as many as 18 drivers and five sanitary field assistants were sacked on Wednesday. The Commissioner said apart from 86 monsoon vehicles, 416 extra vehicles in Swachh Hyderabad units and 183 other vehicles were deployed with the existing 399 vehicles to lift the garbage.
