TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy briefs AICC president Sonia Gandhi on two vital issues

New Delhi: Even as the TRS and the TDP continue to squabble over defections and cash-for-vote scam, the Congress is gearing up to take on both the parties both at the State and Central level. If it was the turn of the AICC vice-president, Rahul Gandhi, to enquire about the two issues yesterday, it was the party's president, Sonia Gandhi's turn on Thursday to update herself on these subjects.

  • Issues like defections by TRS and cash-for-vote scam brought to the notice of Sonia Gandhi
  • Congress readies to raise the two issues in Parliament
  • Governor’s silence on two issues riles party
  • KCR urged to devote time to governance, instead of resorting to dirty politics

The TPCC president, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who met her Thursday explained to her the political developments in the State. The TRS engineered defections from the Congress and other rival parties and the subsequent Revanth Reddy issue figured prominently among them.

While, the TPCC has been asked to fine-tune its strategy in taking on the two parties simultaneously in this regard, the AICC itself is preparing to raise the issues in the Parliament. The Governor, E S L Narasimhan's silence in this regard also came in for discussion, it is said.

The fact that the same Narasimhan who had rejected the panel of State Information Commission during the Congress rule earlier, had administered oath to the defectors from other parties as ministers now has come under the Congress scanner.

Speaking to the media after meeting Sonia Gandhi, Uttam Kumar Reddy, criticised the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao and asked him to take time out for governance instead of resorting to dirty politics.

Warning KCR of revolt from within, he said the former should know that there was serious discontent within the ruling party over defectors securing plum positions. Sonia Gandhi had gifted a "rich Telangana" in fulfiliing her promise made to the people of the State, but KCR was squandering away the chance.

As for former PCC president, D Srinivas, who jumped onto the TRS bandwagon, he said a person of such a character and a perennial loser would only harm the TRS. He said the list of probables for the Warangal LS seat was under scrutiny and that included the name of S Rajaiah and added that the party was confident of enrolling 20 lakh members shortly.
